People in a band, how did you meet, join, or start your band?

Main Post:

I’m super passionate about music and a decent guitar player, a pretty good piano player, and an ok singer. It’s a dream of mine to play in a band but I have no idea how this starts or how to get involved with similar people; I don’t really have any musical friends, though I’d love to, but I am unsure of how to meet people. What’s your story with your band and do you have any advice for me?

Top Comment: Search the net and google "piano player/musician looking for a band in ****". Go to all the events near you where live music is, open mics, festivals, concerts, etc.. Visit your local music store, they often have a board with advertisements hanging and know most of the musicians near you.

Main Post: How to Find/Join a Local Band? - BassBuzz Forum

Top Comment: The big thing I took from my time going to a local School of Rock, is that I want to play music with other people. It is more fun and will really push my skills. Playing a support instrument makes more sense with other musicians to support. I am looking for advice on the best ways to find a ...

How do you join a band as a bass player?

Main Post:

How did you guys get into your bands and how would reccomend a newcomer get into a band?

Top Comment:

I did it the traditional way. I found a band I liked and challenged their bass player to a steel-cage death-match. It was rough, but once I ripped his throat out with my teeth the job was all mine.

New in Munich, looking for a band to join - bassist

Main Post:

So I just moved to Munich for my PhD and am trying to "preserve" some of my past hobbies in my new life here. One of them (you guessed it) is playing the bass guitar, which I've been doing for ~10 years and always had more fun while playing in a band - studio stuff and small performances in bars or such.

As you would expect though, I am feeling completely clueless on how to find a group of people to share this hobby here in Munich, without any previous connexions...

I was wondering if anyone here has a golden tip on how to do it or even could be interested themself. I am up for playing anything 80's, 90's Rock, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock, Hard Rock etc.

Rock on!

I’ve not looked into it myself but I have heard from instrument-playing friends there are some message boards where you can post your availability, how serious you are, what kind of music you play etc and search for others, too. Could be worth a Google. I’ll ask for any links they might have!

Any of you guys join a band in your 30’s?

Main Post:

I’ll be 31 in 2 months and I played in a few bands back in high school. I got really into competitive jiujitsu in my 20’s & the last couple years I’ve been getting that itch to play again. I play bass & guitar and just want to jam with some people and make fun songs. I’m by no means a good musician. Shit I’ll even be a singer.

Problem is, none of my buddies have the same taste as I do, or the time to get together and play. I live in NJ so I know there’s plenty of opportunity if I look, but is it stupid if I start up again at this age? Just looking for some stories from other people who may have done the same, or advice even.

Top Comment:

No it is not stupid. I started again at 31, got a record deal and play good shows between boring day job. Please do it.

Lancaster Ohio rapper looking to join or make a band

Main Post:

I want to start or join a band like Hollywood undead, falling in reverse, linkin park, etc. I rap and record, have started learning guitar recently for fun. I have a mpc, and take music very seriously. I am willing to travel if you’re not too far away from Lancaster

Top Comment:

Shit, I would but I live too far away. I'm in the Philippines
